“The only dream worth having is to dream that you will live while you are alive, and die only when you are dead.
To love, to be loved.
To never forget your own insignificance.
To never get used to the unspeakable violence and vulgar disparity of the life around you.
To seek joy in the saddest places.
To pursue beauty to its lair.
To never simplify what is complicated or complicate what is simple.
To respect strength, never power.
Above all to watch.
To try and understand.
To never look away.
And never, never to forget.”

searching for freedom

I have walked that long road to freedom. I have tried not to falter; I have made missteps along the way. But I have discovered the secret that after climbing a great hill, one only finds that there are many more hills to climb. I have taken a moment here to rest, to steal a view of the glorious vista that surrounds me, to look back on the distance I have come. But I can rest only for a moment, for with freedom comes responsibilities, and I dare not linger, for my long walk is not yet ended.

 -Nelson Mandela

I saw this at work today and got chills that wouldn't quit. Mr Mandela truly can speak on captivity and freedom like most of us never will. While we may not understand physical chains and imprisonment we all still struggle with our own road to freedom. There are things in life that trap and ensnare us and all we can do is keep walking. And maybe stop and enjoy it every once in a while.

“Why don’t you tell me that ‘if the girl had been worth having she’d have waited for you’? No, sir, the girl really worth having won’t wait for anybody.”

Winter is the Worst

Argh. I hate the cold. We have actually had quite a mild Winter this year but the weather reports are saying we just might get a tidy little blizzard on Wednesday. Fab. Just what I wanted.

What is it about the cold weather that stunts my creativity? I don't want to take photos, go to museums, create, write, or do anything that's good for my mental health. Now is the ideal time to get home projects done! Alas, 'tis not to be. I crave the warmth and new life of the Spring to reinvigorate me and breathe life back into my hibernating brain. All engines are running at their bare minimum in the creativity category and I'm sick of it! For now I just want to drink hot cocoa and cuddle non stop. One of those two things has been happening a lot lately.

To help me have warm thoughts I have a trip to look forward to! I'm going to Italy with a few friends on the 28th! Woo hoo! The Colosseum, gelato, the Trevi fountain, REAL Italian food - I can't wait!
