Eh, I Tried

In an attempt to cleanse my bod a bit after my San Diego sugar binge, I decided to try grapefruit again. I have never liked grapefruit because they are just far too tangy for me.

I cut it in half, drizzled honey on top and broiled it until it looked a bit carmelized. I think it is quite pretty.

It was a bust. I still dislike the taste of grapefruit, but the honey cut the tang a bit - enough for me to eat it up! If you're a fan of the fruit, I would highly suggest the honey broiled fun.

i can't sleep

it's 3am.
i need to be up at 4:40am because i'm being picked up at 5.
yes, i'm annoyed,

at least i'll be getting a tan as i'm cranky tomorrow (today)

Ladies, Set Your DVR

'My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding' premieres tonight on TLC. You better believe I will be watching this! My friend told me about this show on the BBC about gypsy weddings and we just haven't gotten around to watching it. So imagine my delight when I turned on TLC this morning and saw a preview for it!

Your Harry Potter Experience in One Word

I just got a little teary eyed. I can't wait for the last movie but I'm going to cry like a baby when it's over. I was actually discussing this the other day. I likened it to your senior year of high school. The whole year you're rolling your eyes and you can't wait to get out of school and away from all the idiots around you. That is, until graduation. You cry, you cling and you want to keep that moment forever but time marches on and so must you. I can't wait for the final movie but I hope time crawls while watching it because that's it. No more Hogwarts, no more Professor McBonagall, no more beautiful Hermione and awkward Ron. Sigh.

My word would be happy.

What I Never Learned

You know how when someone makes a reference that everyone around you seems to get but you're left fake laughing because you weren't required to read 'Lord of the Flies' like everyone else on the planet? Does this ever happen to you? I feel like a fairly literate, competent person when it comes to most things but when certain topics come up, I curse my elementary school education.

What I never learned:

-State capitals

-Parts of speech: nouns, verbs, adjectives, etc. Seriously, I didn't learn this stuff until I started Spanish in 9th grade - it was quite the crash course

-Never read: Lord of the Flies, Grapes of Wrath, Catcher in the Rye, The Great Gatsby, Jane Eyre, Of Mice and Men, The Old Man and the Sea, and more. Granted, as an adult I am now catching up on these books that I feel I "missed out on". (Luckily, I had some amazing English teachers who intriduced me to plenty of other good reads)

-The trick to determining how many days are in the months....something with the knuckles on your hands?

-The difference between affect and effect

-Apparently you don't do 2 spaces after a period when starting a new sentence. I honestly learned that late last year. Wonderful.

There's got to be more that aren't coming to mind. I think I turned out okay, just don't ask me about Jane Eyre!

Trip Picture OVERLOAD

I had a wonderful time in San Diego!  Instead of breaking this up into several different posts I just decided to do a picture dump on one. This is mainly for my mom anyway because most of the people who read my blog are also Facebook friends so you can see most of these pictures there.

Friday morning I took my friend's bike out for a ride around Pacific Beach.

We (the bike and I) started with some straight up legit Mexican food.

Drool.

Then, without reason, the bike steered me straight to Mr. Frosties! I had no control!

I got my usual Chocolate Mint Oreo shake. It comes with an Oreo on top. My friend Kristy taught me to push it to the bottom so it gets all soggy and you have the deliciousness waiting for you at the bottom. Imagine my surprise when I found another one! Double soggy Oreos are like double rainbows. A blessing.

Then down to the pier to another old haunt. Kono's - the best breakfast in town. GO.

Friday afternoon my friends and I headed up to Huntington Beach for the weekend. We started with an Angels game! iheartbaseball

The Angels won 9-0. I think I'm a good luck charm.

After the game we all went to Joe Petrucci's for ice cream and Italian ice. I got a Joe Latti - Italian ice and soft serve......I might fly back just for this amazingness. Oh. So. Good.

Saturday afternoon at Huntington Beach

Monday at Santana's eating 2 fish tacos. Most of my trip revolved around eating....I don't think that's a problem ;)

This is more for my family's benefit. Mom! Look! Thrifty's ice cream! Better than I remember!

I used to go to the gliderport to sit and think. I love it there, I think next time I visit I'm going to have to actually try hang gliding.

New Crush Alert!

This is Colin Egglesfield (you're welcome). We (Devon and I) discovered our new boyfriend when we went and saw "Something Borrowed". You need to understand the power of this guy's looks.........John Krasinski is in that movie yet I would swoon whenever this homie came on screen. That powerful, yo.

So naturally, when we got home I stalked the internet like a stalker nutcase fan and found out a little bit about my new man. First of all - he's 38! What the what!?! I thought he was my age! Which happens to be 22 or something. Whatever, he looks gooooood. He's single (holler) and I found this quote which I promptly emailed to Devon. I would have just called her into my room but we were both supposed to be asleep (even though neither of us were) because it was after 11pm and we had 8am church the next day (kill me) (I go. Not always pretty, but I go):

"I’m 38 years old and I think that’s why I haven’t gotten married because I’ve been in a couple of relationships where it’s gotten close but there’s that little bit of doubt where I haven’t been able to make that leap of faith. For me, I’m not the kind of person who can jump into something and be like let’s just see how it goes. Let’s give it a shot. I feel like I need to have that feeling where okay, this is the person that I want to spend the rest of my life with. And maybe I’m being a little too picky, but playing this character where you’re with someone who … and I’ve been in that situation where I’ve been in a relationship with someone and I knew it was going on longer than it should have been but because you’re so entrenched and you know each other’s families and you’ve gone on vacations [together] and it’s just that you’re going with it and hoping and thinking maybe this is just the way it is. But, for me, I think life is too short personally and I can’t settle because I just do not want to be in the situation that Dex found himself in where he’s thinking it could be better with someone else."

We Build Forts

Before the world began it was determined that everything is better in a fort. True story.

I have a huge loft in my bedroom and we decided that to continue to properly watch movies up there it needed a fort. Last night we had some friends over and began construction - it soon began to look like a circus tent. Who doesn't love the circus? This is an ongoing project, the fort is in its infancy.

We watched "Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead".

So. Good. Jealous?
