"Yesterday, December 7, 1941—a date which will live in infamy—the United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked by naval and air forces of the Empire of Japan......As commander in chief of the Army and Navy I have directed that all measures be taken for our defense. But always will our whole nation remember the character of the onslaught against us. . ."  - Franklin Delano Roosevelt

I am extra grateful today for our armed forces. I am proud of my strong military heritage and the love I feel for this country.

God Bless America!

I once was in Hiroshima on the anniversary of the exact day of the bombing. I was the only american around for miles at Hiroshima. It was a sad, sad day and I was afriad I would be attacked or spat upon. Instead, I was greeted by kindness, and by wonderful japanese who were humble and said that Hiroshima was necessary to stop all the bloodshed. They understood what had happened and in response to our attack on Pearl Harbor. I was shocked at the response. They did comment however that Nagasaki would have been a better target due to the military base, instead of attacking women and children. I can understand that. Nagasaki didn't have visibility that day. Nevertheless, it stopped the war, pretty much. Losses were on both sides and war is never pretty, but sadly necessary. IMHO.
