As a sign language interpreter I occasionally run across a client who doesn't understand sarcasm OR I just can't seem to interpret it effectively. The look of confusion is not a treat for anyone.
Am I alone with this? I know other interpreters read this dumb blog so your input would be appreciated! I should have this skill down pat (what does that even mean?) because I was raised on sarcasm...and casseroles.

As you know, I don't interpRet but I will say, I can't get along with people who aren't sarcastic.... they seem really lame to me. ;)
oh yeah. i totally understand what you mean. i hate having to explain everything to a client. not fun at all
Sometimes if I get a blank stare, I try to say it again in a different way, and add a more amazing sarcastic face. is that wrong?
But really some sarcasm just doesn't translate the same. (that's right, I defer all fault, and blame it on the process.)
I asked Ben J about this, his simple explanation.....interpreting sarcasm is not possible because sarcasm is not highly used in the deaf community. There ya go. PS still squealing about Gally!!
