Confessions Part I

Almost every time I go to Target I buy myself a Pizza Hut Personal Pan Pizza and I love it more than I could love a human baby. True story.  I did it today!

Another Me Too...

I love looking at PostSecret every Sunday for 20 new secrets and this past Sunday, I found one that I could have written myself! I really, really want to send in some secrets that I've been keeping for a while but I can't get up the nerve. I think it will have to be a Spring Break project. Until then, enjoy! (PS - this is my 201st post!)

Aspen Rundown

My week interpreting in Aspen was incredible! If you are lurking on my blog for the first time please, allow me to catch you up. I am a sign language interpreter and last week I went to Aspen, Colorado for the US Deaf snowboard team tryouts. Yes, I am that cool!

The week was crazy/fun/exhausting/challenging/amazing and more (I just don't have a great vocabulary tonight). We boarded everyday from 8:30am - 2pm and I am definitely not a pro like them, so I was beat by the time 2pm rolled around! My day was not over though, I had to continue interpreting throughout the evening because the coach is hearing and doesn't know any sign language. But I guess that's the reason I went!

Sadly, I only had one truly spectacular wipeout during the week and no, there are no pictures.

The picture below is just a sampling of how gorgeous it is there. I know, I know...I live in Utah, I should see the beauty all around...blah, blah, blah. I'm sorry, but it doesn't compare. Maybe because I live in dirty Orem, who knows.

This is one of our athletes! (Don't worry, he gave photographic permission)  He crashed hard, hit his head, had to go to the hospital and I was able to do some medical interpreting (my fave!) He cracked his helmet but not his noggin, luckily. He ended up with a minor concussion and tried his darndest to convince us he was fine. While in the ER I saw an actress I recognized to be Connie Nielson (Gladiator, Law & Order) and I remembered she is married to the drummer from Metallica.  Just as I was remembering all this, he walked around the corner.  I'm good, oh yeah.  It was a crazy crazy day. But the night....

I got to interpret for BeatleMania! I was asked to interpret for a Beatles cover band that night and it was absolutely amazing!!! I have to retract my recent statement about medical interpreting because performance interpreting is my true love. I had zero prep time, the set list they gave us was completely wrong and it was absolutely chaotic! I loved every second of it! Even when I had to interpret, "roll over Beethoven, tell Tchiakovsky the news". I'm the bomb, it's true. The crowd loved us and I'm just waiting for the call from their manager asking if I'm available to tour. Fingers crossed!

Being back is good, except for the cold I caught from one of the athletes and the tendinitis that is dragging down my left elbow. I cannot wait to do this all over again, but you better believe that next time I'll be a much better boarder!

Am I?

I only bought two of these while in Vegas. I have no understanding of "pacing myself"...they're almost gone.

Two Birthdays, One Stone

Porter Sanford Campbell was born February 20th at about 2:30am!  Hooray for a nephew!  He is absolutely perfect in every way.  His middle name comes from his great-grandfather on his dad's side and Maria helped to pick his first.

Maria's 19th birthday was yesterday, the 22nd.  She shares this birthday with our grandpa on my mom's side, he turned 91 yesterday!  Maria is a really good sport for sharing her birthday and the spotlight time and time again.  She is amazing and I am so proud to be her big sister!

Marry Me!

My super cool friend, Eliza, stole a tag from a friend of hers about her spouse. Eliza, being the thinker that she is, realized that it is very discriminatory to those of us that are single and cannot do a post about our spouses. So, Eliza filled out this tag out for a future husband/lover and tagged all of her single friends and that's me! So, here are the answers for the future Mr. Rachel Johnson!

1. He's sitting in front of the TV, what is on the screen? Sports or something on the History or Discovery channel

2. You're out to eat; what kind of dressing does he get on his salad? He doesn't love salad, he likes meat. If he's forced to eat salad, he likes ranch.

3. What's one food he doesn't like? He actually likes everything even though he won't eat his vegetables by choice.

4. You go out to eat and have a drink? Yes, he will typically get a lemonade and will pick on me about wanting a Diet Coke.

5. Who did he vote for? He is smart like me and researched the issues and decided to vote for RON PAUL.

6. What size shoe does he wear? I believe he wears a 12....?

7. If he was to collect anything, what would it be? He doesn't collect anything, it's not his thing.

8. What is his favorite type of sandwich? He loves "the works". I think that's gross but whatever, he loves it!

9. What would this person eat every day if he could? My cooking. More specifically, steak.

10. What is his favorite cereal? Frosted Mini Wheats

11. What would he never wear? His high school letterman's jacket

12. What is his favorite sports team? Either the Padres or the Jazz

13. Where did he go to high school? Hmmm, no idea at the moment.

14. Who is his best friend? Obviously me, but if we're talking about someone other than me I'm guessing it's someone from his mission or a high school buddy.

15. What is something you do that he wishes you wouldn't do? Be so obnoxious in public.

16. His heritage? Something sexy.

17. You bake him a cake for his birthday; what kind of cake? Ice cream cake!

18. Did he play sports in high school? Of course, and he was a star :)

19. What could he spend hours doing? Talking to me and reading

20. What is one unique talent he has? He can speak several languages

Cake Wrecks

You may have noticed that I added a new blog to follow called Cake Wrecks. Or you may not have noticed. Fine. Either way, I suggest you check it out. It features cakes supposedly "professionally" done which have then been sold or put on display. Some of them I just can't believe would be called professional but I guess the author of the website researches each one to ensure they stay true to the goal of the site.

This one is a cupcake cake and I'm guessing it was for a baby shower or something. I would die if that was the artist's rendering of my sweet baby girl! Notice it also says "gril" instead of "girl". Who would want their kids face to be made out of german chocolate frosting?!?  Unless that kid was born with a seriously wonky eye, I'd be asking for a refund.  Awesome. Check out the blog, she updates constantly!

Wrong Again and a Real Post

Apparently I can get the internet up here in Aspen, which is good because now I can let you know about the super freakin' sexy snowboarder I get to interpret for this week.  I am a little excited  :)

On to the real post, I found this online the other day and I kind of want to die.

I don't plan on having any biological children so I can expect to not see this at any "shower" held in my honor.  Lucky me.  BUT, if I ever went to a shower and saw these, I might have to reconsider my friendship with the impregnated one.  Gross.  I found it on stupid.com and thought you would probably like it.  Am I right?

Bye!

I'll be gone until Friday and while I'll have my computer with me, I'm not sure if I'll have internet access. I may not be able to blog for a whole 6 days! So, I'll miss you, I love you and I hope you have a fabulous week.

The picture is for in case you forget what I look like...I haven't seen most of you in a while so it's entirely possible! Love you!  Be good!

Ugliest Shoes Ever. Truly.

I'm only in town for 24 hours and am again relishing having internet access, so another blog post it is!  I'm leaving again tomorrow morning for a week in Aspen, Colorado.  All this traveling is fun but exhausting!  After a week on a crappy hotel mattress I slept like a drunk baby last night.  A fat, drunk, very happy baby.

On to the main event:

I found these shoes on the internet.  Though you can't see it, it is actually Sarah Jessica Parker wearing them.  Awful!  I thought she was more stylish than that.   All I can think is, "CAMEL TOE, CAMEL TOE, CAMEL TOE!"  Gross.

Kids Say....

Rachel: "Did you know I'm not in Utah right now?"

Haven: "Where are you?"

Rachel: "I'm in Las Vegas. Tell your mom I'm a stripper!"

Haven: "Mom, you're a stripper!"

Vanity

We have noticed that people in Las Vegas seem to really love vanity license plates. They're awful! Eliza has tried to take as many pictures of them as possible but until she can get those posted you'll just have to deal with me typing them out. Enjoy!

Fashion Victim

I'm doing this from Eliza's iPhone so this will be short and sweet because I have no patience for this. I worked with a little Deaf boy yesterday and today and I wore the same shoes both days. The student noticed and called me out on it! Me, Rachel! Like it even matters but still, it totally bugged me. Love you!

Lazy Update

This is what has happened so far. I'm scarred for life...it was gross/hilarious/disturbing/a great memory. I'm so glad Liza was there to share! I miss you all, well not yet really but maybe by Thursday I will.

Coolest Job. Ever.

I will be out of town for the next 2 weeks starting tomorrow (today? what time is it?).  This week Eliza and I will be in Las Vegas to interpret and next week I'll be in Aspen, Colorado to interpret for the US Deaf Olympic Snowboard team.  Life is good.  I'll be posting, don't you worry.

Brand New Crush

Jerilyn and I agree, Bradley Cooper is the bee's knees. We both fell madly in love last night...even though his character in the movie is a complete tool box.

Love you Bradley baby!

He's Just Not That Into You

Even better than expected.

Laughed.  A lot.

Cried.  Once.

Tempted to cover my sister's eyes twice.

Saw it with 11 amazing ladies.

Am currently regretting several prior relationships.

Will never date the same ever again.

I know I'm worth a lot more than how I've been treated in the past.

Will absolutely see it again.

Crazy Craigslist

This is a real, true, serious ad on Craigslist. I have little to no words on this one. I wish I were kidding. Enjoy.

Here's the TRUE HOLLYWOOD STORY on the ring:

Years ago, I was a bright-eyed Ivy Leaguer dating a high school buddy from my home town. We were 1700 miles apart, I was surrounded by buff, Adonis-like prep school hotties (Think "Gossip Girl"), but no, I had committed myself to the hometown sweetie. Whom I once picked on in 6th grade and called "Lassie" because he followed me everywhere, but hey, we had matured...

When I came down to visit him one holiday break my junior year, we went shopping near his college. He rather informally and unethusiastically asked if I'd like to get engaged. In my youthful naivete, I decided to pass up free booty all over the place. I later find out he's getting his groove thang on back home. Hell no. I dumped his @$$ and kept the hardware.

I finished Princeton and moved out West with the bling-bling

I thought I lost the ring years ago, but managed to find it about two months ago hidden in a silk purse in one of my handbags. I replaced it with some kickass wedding jewelry from my awesome husband, so I have no need for it. I am selling it to get a Mayan jaguar goddess tattooed on my back. Yeah- it's going to be so friggin' sweet- and expensive. My tattoo appointment is Valentine's Day so I will consider best offers before Feb 14.

***This is Rachel speaking now....I really hope she gets her friggin' sweet Mayan jaguar goddess tattoo!  I wonder if I can track her down somehow and get her to send me a picture, hmmm....

My friend emailed me this article and I thought I'd give it a shot since the recent topics of this blog have been all about LOVE.   If you don't read the article it is all about summing up your love life in six words.  It has been on my mind all day and I've come up with a couple of zingers.  Tell me about your love life in the comment section!

Hey Norm!

Today is not the birthday of famous American painter Norman Rockwell, but today celebrates People Who Live Well (I'm not making this up).  My boy Norm is on the list of being celebrated for living well and encouraging those around him to live well.

My dad bought my mom a coffee table book full of all his paintings when I was about nine. I have looked through that book countless times and I love, love, love his work. When my dad brought that book home for my mom, he made sure to bring each kid their own print, this one was mine....

I love it! I think it fits me perfectly! I think my older sister got some girl putting on makeup or something, I prefer mine. Click on it to enlarge so you can see why I love it so much!

New Obsession

I think I have decided to buy a condo or townhouse. I don't think I'm ready for a house, that seems TOO adult and I don't want to be a true adult yet. I have a lot of really amazing options for career paths and I think I might just be staying in Utah for a while.

So, my new obsession? Looking up houses/condos/townhouses on the internet. Obsessed. Absolutely.

One requirement? A super pimp master bathroom. I want/need a sunken jetted tub. That's my idea of Heaven.

Let's Call it a WIN

Thanks again FailBlog, I totally laughed out loud at an inappropriate time.

Idiot

I was totally on the Michael Phelps bandwagon during the Olympics and I was not ashamed to admit it.  Until now.  Check out this article.

I hate when celebrities get caught doing something stupid and then they apologize and say it was a lack of judgment and we can be assured it will never happen again, blah blah blah.

Yeah right!  You're just apologizing because you got caught!  You're not truly sorry!

Grrrr!  (I'm making a mad face right now)
