Snoozin'

I now have something in common with this guy.

I joined the prestigious ranks of
"the sort of person who can and does fall asleep on the metro"

Except that when I fell asleep I had the decency to cross my legs

Adventure of the Day

Today was a great day for an adventure.  My roommate, Kate, and I went to Georgetown to walk around a bit and eat some delicious food.  Enjoy!

We started with some delectable crepes - I got strawberries & nutella, she got strawberries, bananas & nutella.  Yummers!

Ugh.  Georgetown Cupcakes.  There is currently a show on TLC about them called "DC Cupcakes" and it is super annoying.  The line was wrapped around the block....I'll try it eventually to see if it lives up to it's hype.  Today was a scorcher so it was not the day to wait in line for a taste test.

Cutest Thing Ever....

......trust me!

Ok, maybe not EVER, but still - so cute!

It's a Kitty Dam!

My mom sent me this picture message the other day with the caption, "It's a kitty dam!"

This is Rocky Balboa and I guess he couldn't be bothered to move while my mom tried to water the garden.  Yeah, their garden is kind of a big deal.  My dad has worked out an extensive flooding/gate system but little did he know that his plans were secretly being undermined by the lazy cats!

And yes, our cat's name is Rocky Balboa.  The other 3 cats are Mr. Bo Jangles, Cow and Mini Cow.
Awesome.

True Story

Today I had to go the the second story of a building for a job.  I look around, don't see stairs, get in the elevator and and am followed in by a man in bicycle shorts who is carrying a bike helmet.

I push the button for the second floor and as the doors are closing I turn slightly and see the stairs.

"Oh my gosh - there are the stairs!"  I exclaim, pointing to the now visible stairs leading to my destination.  (Really talking to no one but myself, but these things tend to be verbalized rather than stay cooped up in my noggin)

"I'm so glad you said something because I was like, oh my gosh she looks like she's healthy and she's seriously taking the elevator up one flight of stairs!  What has this world come to?!?"  Spandex Man gushed.

Right.  I'm glad it was just one quick floor for me because it seemed as though he could keep going.  Did I appreciate his admission of judgment?  Meh.  Didn't matter, but I didn't want a lecture on smoothies and bike riding either.

By the way, when the job was over I walked down the stairs like a HEALTHY person would do.
Then I went to Starbucks for something delicious and fatty.

I Can't Wait....

....to get to know this place better!  I got lost at least 10 times today!  Ugh.  I only had 2 jobs but for the first one I drove 22 miles the wrong way....but I still got there on time.

I'm definitely loving the work so far!  I've met 3 other interpreters and they are great!  They all jumped at the chance to advise me on maneuvering this crazy, crazy new adventure.

Nauvoo

We pulled into Nauvoo tonight at 6:30 so we only had a short time to walk around.  We're going to make the most of the short time we have tomorrow and see as many sights as possible.  It's a sweet, small town and I love the feeling I have here.

More photos to follow - naturally

On the Road Again

My dad and I left my parent's house this morning at 9:30 and we are now hunkered down in a hotel somewhere in Nebraska.  The trip is going well!  We are almost done listening to The Hunger Games on audiobook.  I already read it but I thought my dad might enjoy it - and boy, was I right!  He loves it!  We're pretty excited for more driving so that we can listen to Catching Fire.

Tomorrow we'll make our way to Nauvoo and spend the evening and the next morning there.  This is really happening!  Hooray for a new chapter!

Photo of the Day: Carnivore

My parents are raising this cow to slaughter :(  I know it's the best/safest way to do it (because they know exactly what it's eating) but it still makes me sad because now I know him.

Photo of the Day: Leaving

Today I am leaving Provo to go to my parent's house and then on Tuesday my dad and I will start the trek to DC.

I chose this photo because it is from Eliza's backyard.  I have lived in her parent's basement for almost a year and I have learned two things:

1 - Provo is fine, but I don't ever want to live here again
2 - The Baird family is lovely.  Eliza's parents are great, they have been welcoming, showed genuine concern about my life and have treated me like a daughter.  Eliza's siblings have been amazing when they are over here.  They chat with me, they remember things about me and they are very fun and sincere people.

Leaving Provo - not sad.
Leaving the Bairds - very sad.

I need to look at this so that I don't go crazy when I look around my messy room.  Packing stinks and I feel like it's never ending.  Hey!  How about I complain some more!

Creepy

I dislike commercials in general, but once they resort to creepy marketing my dislike turns into "leave the room and cover my eyes" hate.  Like what these companies have done -

The Geico caveman.  I hate these commercials!  They even had a TV pilot a few years ago that, luckily, only lasted a few episodes.  I think the cavemen actually remind me of several real life guys that creep me out so it makes it that much easier for me to get the heebie jeebies from the Geico cavemen.

Baby Bob, the spokesbaby for eTrade.  I just don't like talking babies or animals.  Cartoon are different but movies that feature real animals who have been altered to look like they talk and then have some celebrity doing their voice....shudder.  Seriously, I hate it.

I saved the worst for last.  These little Crocs Lite guys are gross.  They run in to greet you when you get home and massage your feet and then you wear them.  Sounds like something Harry Potter is made of, but JK Rowling would have toned down the creepy and turned up the awesome.
