1st Book Club Book

I've heard a lot of buzz about this book so I think it would be a good first book for our little club.  "The Hunger Games" by Suzanne Collins, available everywhere.  I grabbed a copy today so I would have something to ready over my excursion.  When I'm back we can coordinate about a day/time to do this thing.

I now call this book club to order!

Blonde Joke (not intended to offend)

An old, blind cowboy wanders into an all-girl biker bar by mistake.
He finds his way to a bar stool and orders a shot of Jack Daniels.
After sitting there for a while, he yells to the bartender,
'Hey, you wanna hear a blonde joke?'

The bar immediately falls absolutely silent.
In a very deep, husky voice, the woman next to him says,
'Before you tell that joke, Cowboy, I think it is only fair,
given that you are blind, that you should know five things:

1. The bartender is a blonde girl with a baseball bat.
2. The bouncer is a blonde girl.
3. I'm a 6-foot tall, 175-pound blonde woman with a black belt in karate.
4. The woman sitting next to me is blonde and a professional weight lifter.
5. The lady to your right is blonde and a professional wrestler.

Now, think about it seriously, Mister. Do you still wanna tell that joke?'

The blind cowboy thinks for a second, shakes his head and mutters,
'No...not if I'm gonna have to explain it five times.'

Delicious Surprise

Last night I went to Pocatello to watch my brother compete in a track meet for UVU.  We're all SO proud! Anyway, he did really well.  He knocked a full second off of his time from last week in the 400 meter dash.  Woot!  What a stud.

You may be confused.  Maybe you think I'm referring to my little brother as a "delicious surprise". You're disgusting.  When we were leaving last night we pulled over to get gas and some food for the road.  We rounded a corner and this came into view....

I may or may not have offered a silent prayer of gratitude.  I love this place!  We don't have them in northern Utah yet POCATELLO has them?!?!  I only get my fix when I go to St George or Las Vegas.

My mom and sister were sweet enough to indulge my taste buds even though they were unfamiliar with the menu.  It was, in fact, a delicious surprise.

Have a great weekend!

New Addiction

So delicious.  Buy them at Costco, try to get there before me or there may not be any left.
I literally snarl at Eliza when she grabs one or two from my bag of 254 pretzels.  They are that good.
This addiction is not so good for all my working out.  I'm counteracting all the hours in the gym but they are worth it!
I love the salty and sweet combo.  Give it a try...just not from my bag.

Snarl.

Invictus

Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds and shall find me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.

-W.E. Henley

(Avatar Spoiler Alert)

This is amazing!  Sorry if I just ruined the movie for you, but this is so incredibly funny (and accurate) I just had to share!  I've heard it said that the story is a combination of: Fern Gully, Pocahontas and Dance With Wolves.  If you have not yet seen it I think it's worth checking out because the visual effects and animation are stunning, but yeah, the story is definitely not groundbreaking.

Kudos to the dude who came up with the comparison!

Movies of 2009

Last January I decided to keep the ticket stub from every movie I went to in 2009.  Through 2 or 3 moves I was able to keep most of them and track what movies I spent money on.  Here's the list (in no particular order) (a number next to the title is if I saw it multiple times in the theater)(a star next to it means I really liked it):

Transformers
Harry Potter (2)*
Up (2)*
New Moon (2)
Star Trek*
Monsters Vs Aliens
Wolverine
Night at the Museum:Battle for the Smithsonian*
The Proposal (2)*
Paul Blart: Mall Cop
Taken
Angels and Demons
District 9*
Couples Retreat
He’s Just Not That Into You (2)*
The Princess and the Frog*
Where the Wild Things Are
ZombieLand*
This Is It*
17 Again (2)*
Time Traveler’s Wife
Bride Wars (2)
Confessions of a Shopaholic
Duplicity
Surrogates
Precious*
All About Steve
500 Days of Summer*
Invictus*
Love Happens
Fame
The Invention of Lying
Whip It*
Nine*
White on Rice*
Tale of Despereaux
Seven Pounds*
Marley and Me

If my math is correct, that's 45 movies.  Almost an average of one per week!  Wow.  I have no regrets, seriously, even the bad movies.  I love movies, they're my favorite form of entertainment.  Lots of those were seen at the dollar theater, so it's not an extremely frivolous activity, just a slightly frivolous activity.

So far, 2010 has been fabulous for movies...will blog on that later!

McMistake? McLove?

I have never eaten a McRib.  I think they look gross so I have avoided them for 27 years.  I have noticed that some people go into a frenzy whenever they are brought back for a limited time...so now I'm curious.

Eliza and I were driving the other day and we saw a McDonalds advertising the McRib and we both expressed our disgust and then, almost in sync, said, "I kinda want to try one".

Thank goodness I'm going to have someone on this journey with me.  One thing I'm scared of is being totally wrong.  What if they are DELICIOUS and I become one of the nut case fans who make a paper chain until the next time they are back?

*please be disgusting, please be disgusting, please be disgusting*

It's Too Late

It is too late for me to be blogging anything intelligent or witty right now, seeing as how I have gotten 8 hours of sleep in the past two days.  I know, wah wah wah for me.  Sad life.  So, I will leave you with something I did not create but that I have a deep burning desire to re-create (probably with Julie Archer....this seems like her thing).

Hey, I get it.  I loved my Cabbage Patch doll, who didn't?  But....right.  You don't see boys recording their love affairs with G.I. Joe on film....or do you?  I'll give $10 to the first person who finds this sort of photo with a boy and his "action figures".

Good night!

Book Club

I think I want to do a book club.
I love to read, as do most of my gal friends.
We all have books we love, why not share them?
I know it's tough to find the time while you're still in school, but it's also nice to have time for recreational reading.
Let me know if you're in!

"Don't go around saying the world owes you a living. The world owes you nothing. It was here first."

Mark Twain

Resolved

Resolutions are a tricky business and I don't think that many of my friends/colleagues/family members make them any more.  They are nearly impossible to keep longer than the first two weeks after the new year so now most of us just quit before the game begins.  Yes, it's a quitter's mentality and I am just fine with that, thank you.  When you think about it, it's just the difference from one day to the next that we are celebrating.  12/31 to 01/01....so why resolve to change for 365 days if it is just the difference of one day?  Am I making sense?  Probably not, but hey - it's 2010!

Either way, it was bittersweet to bid adieu to 2009.  It was a great year for me but I've noticed that even years are typically the best for me so I'm pretty excited to see what happens in 2010.  I've got lots of things planned (most of them are secret until they happen, sorry) and no matter what happens, I determine how I react to it.  Keep it positive people!  (and make sticker charts!  They're awesome!)

So, Happy New Year!!!
