I Went

As we all know, Osama Bin Laden has been declared dead. This means a lot to the American people as a whole, especially to my generation. We were in our teens 10 years ago when the terrorist act happened and now as adults we get to see an inkling of justice.

I went to the White House tonight with 2 girlfriends and we joined in on the revelry. I'm glad to have been able to be a part of history. It was loud, crowded, smoky and insanely happy. There were no bad feelings, we smiled and laughed, clapped and cheered with each other. I cried only once! As we were walking up to the White House we saw two women leaving and they were carrying a frame with them. As we got closer we saw that it was the portrait of someone who passed away on 9/11. Cue tears.

Where did all these college kids get American flags so last minute? Maybe my generation is more patriotic than I give them credit for.

The cops were out in force but they looked the other way for a lot more than I expected. Kids in trees, in public fountains, riding on cars and hanging out of the sunroof. The cops looked serious but every once in a while we got them to smile for us.

A group of deliriously happy Marines who kept busting out with alternating the Marine anthem and then chanting "we're not that drunk!" kept the crowd pretty entertained. We sang a "America the Beautiful" and the national anthem a couple times. Good, good times.

Sorry this is such a random jumble of thoughts - I need these out before I forget. I'm sure I'll remember more but it is now 3:45am and I have to work tomorrow!

I wish I was better with my night setting on my camera. There were so many great shots that I wanted to get but couldn't, but here are some to give you a taste of the evening.

Those are my girlfriends fist pumping cheering for a television camera

I had been ready for bed! Not a stitch of makeup and in my pajama top....yikes. Peace ya'll.

I felt for the cameramen tonight, there is NO way they got any sort of usable footage. People kept jumping in front of them. That person is waving a copy of the 9/11 Commission Report. Ha!

Those happy, drunk Marines
