Self Soothing

Whenever I find myself down and in need of comfort, I end up somewhere on the National Mall. Apparently this is my major coping technique.

I will hang this in my house for my children to imprint on their brains

Two Saturdays ago I witnessed an atrocity that shook me to the core. I didn't step in when I feel like I should have, I allowed an innocent to suffer and didn't make a difference in the life of one who couldn't defend himself. The situation itself was awful but I am more disturbed by myself.

I ended up down at MLK after the incident and sobbed (and sobbed and sobbed) when I saw the quote above. What a great reminder of who I want to be.

I have a moment like that, stored in my past and my memory, and I will be ashamed of it forever. However, it will NEVER happen again if I am there to do anything about it. Sob about it, pray about it, learn from it, and teach about it. You're doing all the right things!
