A Little Nostalgia

When I was younger my parents led me to believe that there was only two radio stations, KYXY - soft rock and KBEST 95 - the oldies station.  These were the only ones that they listened to, therefore I was never exposed to anything else.

I am extremely well versed in music like The Carpenters (love them), The Eagles (amazing), The Beach Boys (to die for), Billy Joel (the greatest) and many other incredible old school acts. I thought this was the same education my school friends were getting.

Wrong.

Junior high was a shock when I got exposed to what my generation was actually listening to. I was astounded, to say the least. I was so curious how they all knew this new music and where all these new radio stations came from. I wouldn't say that I was sheltered as a child, but I'm actually glad that's my musical background because music like that just isn't made anymore.

True that.

Agreed! I was raised on similar music, and I love the Carpenters! You also know how I feel about the Beach Boys! (A California thing perhaps?) Love you, and love your taste in music.

I know exactly what you mean. I had no idea there was any other radio station except the oldies. And thanks to that i still know every word to every song written before 1978. couldn't tell you much about after that though :)

In the middle of the night I would go walking in my sleep and dream of being an Uptown Girl and some Back Street Guy (not to be confused with BSB) coming and holding me for The Longest Time at some little club listening to the Pianoman and talking about how We Didn't Start the Fire.

Wow, I'm a nerd!

wow...I thought I was the only one with that experience. I remember my first band outside of FM 100. Techno tronic. It was my gateway band....I've never looked back.
